Playing with Food--Easter Eggs Part II

My post last week on natural dying Easter eggs evoked so much interest that I thought I would show you some more variations that you can use.  I colored all these with food items around the house.  Mind, I naturally dye things all the time, so some of them might not be common in your house.  So I'll be including a list of other things that you can use to successfully dye eggs.

1. Annatto broth powder--You can purchase this at Wal-Mart in the Mexican food section, it might be labelled "achiote" as well.
2. Coffee
3. Turmeric--powdered seasoning
4. Hibiscus--I buy this at our local Mexican market, but hibiscus tea might work also, if it is in your natural foods section.
5. Yellow onion skins
6. Blueberry--frozen berries.

4. Hibiscus
5. Yellow onion skins
6. Blueberry

I made each of my dyes with 1 cup of boiling water and a handful or several tablespoons of the dye material, plus 2 teaspoons of vinegar.  I used soup cans to submerge the eggs in the dye.  I left the eggs submerged for 15 minutes.

WARNING--If you use soup cans they will be hot.  But they are handy!  I have them scattered all over the house and they are filled with beads, and mod podge, and paintbrushes and dyes!
